Rick's caution regarding corals' rocky histories

I for one am not so concerned about the likelihood of coral communities
surviving warming spells, all else being equal.  Rather, we should be very
worried about the degree to which other anthropogenic impacts may
compromise this resiliency.  A parsimonious scenario would have reefs
rebounding quickly in many places most distant from human activity, and
disappearing for a good long while anywhere near people.  This is not a
good thing for people.  Hence, the proximal concern is for people at least
as much as for coral!
