Dear coral-list,

The dead-line date for submission to 10ICRS is approaching (25 December 2003).

Please consider to submit your paper on outcomes of atoll island research
at our mini-symposium:
4-16 "Land-Human Interaction in Atoll Islands", which we hope to organize
as a truly interdisciplinary session on atoll island processes.

Atoll islands are under the threats of sea level rise and local
environmental stress. The formation process of atoll island is determined
by not only physical process but also biological process of calcifying
organisms and terrestrial vegetation and is also closely related with human
land use. To preserve vulnerable landform and resource in the small atoll
islands, we should understand the natural process and land-human
interactions of atoll islands. The themes discussed in this mini-symposium
should be formation process of atoll islands in relation to geology,
physical oceanography and biology; vegetation history; settlement history;
resources evaluation; and land-human interactions in atoll island.

Visit http://www.plando.co.jp/icrs2004/. Click on 'Call for Papers', go to
'Abstract Submission', and assign your abstract to 4-16.

Best wishes,
Masashi Chikamori and Hajime Kayanne
