An NIH funded post-doctoral position is available at Florida
International University in Miami, Florida to study the microbiology and
molecular microbial ecology of black band disease of corals. Experience
in DNA profiling and sequencing, gene cloning, and phylogenetic
characterization of microorganisms is desired. We are looking for
applicants with a background in microbiology who will interface with
other microbiologists in the laboratory working on isolation and
physiological characterization of black band disease heterotrophic and
autotrophic bacteria. The post-doctoral position will focus on use of
molecular techniques, but opportunities for microbiological research
exist. The position is under the joint direction of Drs. Laurie
Richardson and Dee Mills. Dr. Mills is currently the director of FIU’s
International Forensics Research Institute’s DNA Profiling Facility and
Dr. Richardson is a microbiologist working on coral diseases. Salary is
at the NIH rate and is commensurate with years of post-doctoral
experience after the Ph.D. To apply, please send a CV and letter of
interest, along with the names and email addresses of three references,
to Dr. Laurie Richardson, Department of Biological Sciences, Florida
International University, Miami, Florida, 33199. Electronic
applications via email are welcome, addressed to richardl at fiu.edu and
copied to millsd at fiu.edu. FIU is an equal opportunity employer. Women
and minorities are encouraged to apply.
