As IUCN’s World Conservation Congress fast approaches, we would like to invite 
you to attend a special Sponsored Workshop (197) designed to kick-start the 
exciting suite of marine conservation events scheduled throughout the Congress. 

Scaling Up Ocean Management: 

The context for marine conservation at the World Conservation Congress

The general objectives of this Sponsored Workshop are to highlight the urgency 
of marine conservation and to demonstrate practical and successful strategies 
for implementing the global marine objectives and targets set by the Convention 
on Biological Diversity, World Summit on Sustainable Development, and last 
year’s World Parks Congress.  The workshop will set the stage for participants 
to engage in the wide range of opportunities to discuss marine conservation and 
sustainable use issues throughout the Congress.
