1 - Marine Ecosystems & Climate Oceanographer
2 - Ocean Color (Hyperspectral) Applications Oceanographer

Two Oceanographer Openings at NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite,
Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), Office of Research and
Applications

One position is located in Camp Springs, Maryland, with the Marine
Ecosystems and Climate Branch of the Satellite Oceanography Division
(SO) of the Office of Research and Applications within NOAA's National
Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). The
incumbent is involved in and oversees the development and validation of
satellite-derived climate and marine ecosystem products, specifically
including those addressing coral reef issues. As such, the incumbent
will participate in the NESDIS Coral Reef Watch Project (CRW). The
incumbent works closely within the division and with other NOAA and
national / international climate experts to oversee the development and
maintenance of appropriate climatological data records (CDRs) of all
relevant data being generated throughout the SO Division.

The second opening is also located in Camp Springs, Maryland, with the
Marine Ecosystems and Climate Branch of the Satellite Oceanography
Division (SO) of the Office of Research and Applications within NOAA's
National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service
(NESDIS). The incumbent is responsible for research, development, and
validation of satellite ocean color applications for Case 1 and 2
waters, focusing efforts on hyperspectral approaches for applications
employing observations of Case 2 waters. One notable aspect of this
position is the transition of the U.S. Navy's techniques for the optical
characterization of water masses to NOAA and subsequent enhancement,
including their extension to hyperspectral analysis, for domestic
applications. Satellite ocean color applications of interest include
those pertinent to coastal zone management, human health, marine
ecosystems, and homeland security. The incumbent has extensive knowledge
of, and experience with all relevant ocean color satellite sensors. The
incumbent plays a key role in NOAA's CoastWatch Program and works
closely with other NOAA and national/international ocean color experts
to facilitate activities relevant to the Satellite Oceanography
Division.

Applications must be submitted via the Commerce Opportunities On-Line
