[Coral-List] Two Positions Open - Scientific Grants Lead and Ocean Science Data Manager

Two new positions just opened and we need qualified applicants to respond before this Sunday, a Scientific Grants Lead and a Ocean Science Data Manager.

OAR05-001 Scientific Grants Lead  
Position: Scientific Grants Lead--Full-time, immediate opening
Location(s): Silver Spring, MD, USA

Overview -- I.M. Systems Group, Inc (IMSG) has a multiple year contract to provide scientific and technical support to the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  IMSG has an immediate need for a Scientific Grants Lead to assist of NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration (OE) in Silver Spring, MD full time. OE supports expeditions, exploration projects, and a number of related field campaigns for the purpose of discovery and documentation of ocean voyages. Bringing scientists to ocean frontiers requires rigorous planning, mission staging, and well coordinated marine operations. The IMSG Scientific Grants Lead employee will be responsible to develop with the senior scientist from OE announcements of opportunity and request for proposals, will manage the grants process and reporting, provide scientific input into the selection process, and assist with technical writing assignments and outreach activities for the office. 

Qualifications -- The qualified applicant must possess: (1) A strong scientific background in ocean sciences, preferably with ocean mapping and bathymetry, marine life, marine archaeology, habitat and ecosystem characterization, deep corals, or the arctic oceans understanding; (2) experience with the writing of announcements of opportunity and the preparation of proposal responses; (3) proven organizational skills to ensure proper handling of grant proposals; and (4) excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.

Position 2:

OAR05-002 Ocean Science Data Manager  
Position: Ocean Science Data Manager--Full-time, immediate opening
Location(s): Silver Spring, MD, USA

Overview -- I.M. Systems Group, Inc (IMSG) has a multiple year contract to provide scientific and technical support to the National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  IMSG has an immediate need for a Ocean Science Data Manager to assist of NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration (OE) in Silver Spring, MD full time. OE supports expeditions, exploration projects, and a number of related field campaigns for the purpose of discovery and documentation of ocean voyages. Bringing scientists to ocean frontiers requires rigorous planning, mission staging, and well coordinated marine operations. The IMSG Ocean Science Data Manager employee will be responsible to provide at-sea support for selected funded proposals, organizing and archiving information collected through proposed efforts, develop methods for querying and analyzing data from the office web site, coordinate and facilitate data transfer from ship locations through ship-to-shore communication networks, and provide support to OE education and outreach programs. This employee must support the interoffice team in the continued development of the OE program's data management, investigate ideas for within the team, and provide creative ideas for the future of data analysis. 

Qualifications -- The qualified applicant must possess: (1) A strong scientific background in ocean sciences, preferably with ocean mapping and bathymetry, marine life, marine archaeology, habitat and ecosystem characterization, deep corals, or the arctic oceans understanding; (2) experience working with ocean science data types including navigation information, water quality records, sampling information, and imagery from undersea camera systems; (3) experience with relational database development and web enabling support; (4) able to support 7-10 day at-sea travel at various locations at multiple times within a year; and (5) able to work independently on projects. IMSG is looking for a preferred qualified applicant that would possess: (1) knowledge of the Digital Atlas system being developed at NOAA's Coastal Data Development Center; (2) knowledge of NOAA's central library; and (3) and understanding of Internet mapping systems.
