PhD graduate student position: NCRI Research Fellowship 

 

The National Coral Reef Institute (NCRI) at Nova Southeastern University is
searching for a highly motivated, self starting individual, interested in
coral reefs and remote-sensing, to work within an active research group as a
PhD student. With annual funding from NOAA/CSCOR, the NCRI Research Fellow
will undertake targeted, innovative research using the latest scientific
techniques that allow a rapid transition into management. This may include
use of, optic and acoustic remote-sensing techniques to image coral reefs
for further analysis and modelling of spatial dynamics of its constituent
species as dictated by the topography.

Qualifications include:

-        a finished MSc in the life or earth sciences from a recognized

academic     institution

-        competency in field work

-        computationally versed, ideally with some programming experience

-        thoroughly conversant with quantitative methods

-        self-starting and capable of autonomous work

-        willing to travel and spend extended periods of time in isolated,

tropical        locations

-        SCUBA certified and able to pass a physical exam to

          obtain scientific diver certification through the American Academy
of

          Underwater Sciences (AAUS).
