POSITION:      Graduate Program Coordinator
                          (CMES/DMS/EPSCoR)

Update, notice below that the target deadline has 
been extended to February 28, 2006.

ASSIGNMENT:    The successful candidate will 
establish and implement a new Master’s program in 
marine and environmental science.  The candidate 
will play a major role in shaping the program and 
building consensus among faculty and stakeholders 
in support of the program; taking the lead in 
obtaining institutional approval, and 
implementing the program.  The candidate will 
work with UVI faculty and other scientists to 
develop courses; partner with local government, 
non-government, and business organizations in 
support of program activities; work with BCCR PI 
to integrate educational and research activities 
related to the BCCR research thrust within 
graduate, undergraduate, and K-12 programs.  The 
candidate will develop undergraduate research, 
internship opportunities, and support efforts to 
introduce Virgin Islands youth to marine and 
environmental science, and perform other related 
duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
& REQUIREMENTS:
•    PhD in marine, coastal, conservation, or 
environmental science.  Recent PhD’s will receive full consideration.
•    Experience in teaching, research, and mentoring students.
•    Ability to understanding local context.
•    Experience in building partnerships between 
academia and local communities to strengthen 
quality and relevancy of higher education programs.
•    Possess strong interpersonal skills and the 
ability to communicate effectively with various constituencies.

COMPENSATION:    The salary range for this 
position is $37,688 to $54,655 for the 
administrative year depending on qualifications 
and experience. Benefits include the liberal 
TIAA-CREF or the Virgin Islands Government 
Retirement Plan, and a comprehensive group 
medical, dental, and life insurance program.
