I am pleased to announce the opening of two technician positions in  
Coral Reef Studies at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) in  
the beautiful U.S. Virgin Islands.  UVI has an exciting and expanding  
focus on coral reef research and offers excellent access to a variety  
of reef environments in a complex and dynamic seascape.  We are  
seeking energetic individuals to join our research team for what will  
certainly prove to be a rewarding experience.  Positions are open on  
both the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses of UVI. Please see the

Research Analyst I Position- UVI St. Thomas Campus

DEPARTMENT:  Center for Marine and Environmental Studies

ASSIGNMENT:
Under general supervision, the successful candidate will work closely  
with the Coordinator of the USVI Coral Reef Monitoring Program and  
the CMES research staff. Candidate will conduct video and fish  
transects while diving; enter and analyze data; write reports; assist  
research staff and faculty in preparing research proposals and  
manuscripts; participate in occasional community outreach activities  
and administrative tasks and perform other related duties as assigned  
by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in marine biology or related field;
SCUBA certification;
Skilled boat handler and SCUBA diver;
Experience with the identification of Caribbean corals, fishes, and  
other organisms;
Experience in scientific sampling techniques;
Experience with grant writing, and analysis software;
Practical use of Arcview or related GIS software is preferred;
Willing to work on SCUBA to depths up to 135ft. using Nitrox;
Excellent communication and computer skills;
Ability to work both independently and cooperatively on complex  
research tasks.

COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is $28,387 to $32,457 for the  
administrative year, depending upon qualifications and experience.  
Benefits include a retirement plan and a comprehensive group medical,  
dental, and life insurance program.

TRAVEL AND
SHIPPING:
If applicable, economy jet fare to St. Thomas for appointee and  
immediate family and shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid  
by the University upon presentation of receipts.

Research Analyst I Position- UVI St. Croix Campus

DEPARTMENT:  Center for Marine and Environmental Studies

ASSIGNMENT:
Under general supervision, the successful candidate will assist the  
Marine Advisor in implementing a coral reef monitoring program, a  
marine education and outreach program, and other activities as needed  
for the Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS). Candidate  
will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of a small  
boat, leading wetland tours, SCUBA diving, data analysis, providing  
administrative support for the office, and performing other related  
duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor of Science degree is required;
SCUBA certification;
Skilled boat handler and SCUBA diver;
VI Driver’s license or ability to obtain a VI Driver’s license;
Ability to work well independently and cooperatively with others;
Familiarity with local marine resources and the desire to learn more  
about them;
Excellent communication and computer skills;
Ability to work with children;
Experience with web page design is desired.
