FINAL CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - Due August 31, 2006
Meso-scale Effects of Coral Bleaching

Dates: Nov 28-30th, 2006

Location: Institute of Marine Sciences, Zanzibar

The Wildlife Conservation Society and coral reef bleaching group of the
Coral Reef Targeted Research and Capacity Building Program (CRTR) are
announcing a workshop on the meso-scale effects of coral bleaching on corals
and fishes to be held at the Institute of Marine Sciences, University of Dar
es Salaam in Zanzibar from Nov 28th to 30th, 2006.

The workshop will examine existing theory and data concerning the effects of
coral bleaching on corals, fish, and other species assemblages where data
are available for greater than five years after bleaching events. The
purpose is to develop a review of these meso-scale effects based on existing
field studies. We are inviting and covering the costs of participants who
have data at this scale of study to present their findings at this workshop
and contribute to subsequent meta-analyses and review publications. The
workshop will examine the scale-dependent responses to coral bleaching,
examine existing data at the meso-scale, and search for generalizations
concerning the effects at the 5 to 10 year time scale. Regional, temporal
and meta-analyses synthesis are especially sought after and expected to
result from this interaction. Interested investigators should send their
abstracts to the workshop leaders below by August 31, 2006. The abstract
should describe their proposed contribution to the workshop and briefly
describe the data and study they plan to present. The time scale of the
study must span at least five years.

The workshop is a collaborative effort between the CRTR, University of
Queensland, University of Dar es Salaam, Institute of Marine Science, and
the Wildlife Conservation Society. Participants¹ costs will be covered.

Send abstracts to the following if you are interested in participating:
