A brief survey on reefs around Lee Stocking Island last week
indicated a low level of bleaching. Approximately 10% of Siderastrea
siderea colonies exhibited partial bleaching but so far, only small
parts of colonies are affected and most were not yet white. Other
species showing some early effects (also not extreme or widespread)
included Porites porites, Diploria strigosa and Agaricia agaricites.
This is comparable to levels observed in July in previous years.
Typically bleaching at LSI does not become major until mid-August
through October.
