Dear Colleagues,

 

The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) is seeking a part-time (8 - 12 hours per
week for year 1) Consultant and/or Field Representative for our programs in
Belize, Central America.  The Consultant/Field Representative is responsible
for carrying out the Coral Reef Sustainable Destination (CRSD) objectives in
all project sites.  These objectives include: increasing best environmental
business practices in the marine recreation sector; building alliances
between the tourism sector, marine resource managers and local communities;
securing sustainable financing for ongoing conservation efforts; catalyzing
community-based conservation projects to reduce local coral reef threats;
helping to build conservation capacity of existing marine protected areas
(MPAs); and implementing practical and realistic community benefit-sharing
opportunities as a result of conservation. The Consultant/Field
Representative will work cooperatively with the Regional Program Manager,
and program staff to create an integrated strategy for achieving CORAL's
mission.  

This position will be based in Belize, Central America

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Coordination:

*	Ability to work independently to set project goals and coordinate
projects, budgets, and schedules, and complete projects on time;
*	Design projects and evaluation systems with the team and
individually on CORAL programs.

Curriculum Development and Training:

*	Plan and facilitate the delivery of outreach and education training
programs for the marine recreation sector, MPA managers, and local
communities in Belize;
*	Work collaboratively with Program Team on the development of new
educational programs and resources.

Technical Support:

*	Provide technical assistance, expertise and training to MPA
managers, private sector partners and other stakeholders on topics such as
sustainable marine recreation, mooring buoy installation, tourism fee
systems, MPA management plans, and diver carrying capacity;
*	Ensure adequate follow up and support to MPAs and other stakeholder
groups for which CORAL has provided assistance.

Teamwork:

*	Effective and supportive team member by participating in staff and
program team meetings, setting of team goals and milestones, and update team
on progress of work.  Participates in other projects as necessary to
facilitate fulfillment of team goals. 

QUALIFICATIONS

*	Ability to work autonomously while maintaining strong communication
with Program Team
*	Command of written and oral English communication
*	Facility in English and Spanish desirable
*	Prior work experience in conservation required
*	Prior informal education experience required
*	2+ years of conservation project coordination skills with
demonstrated increase in responsibility
*	Grant and report writing experience for foundations and government
agencies
*	Experience in working cooperatively with the marine recreation
sector, MPA managers and government officials
*	Additional knowledge on alternative livelihood development, carrying
capacity studies, and developing MPA management plans is desirable
*	Degree in related field (Marine Ecology, Marine Resource Management,
Economic Development)
*	Scuba diving and/or snorkeling experience
*	Good sense of humor and ability and interest to work in a fast-paced
environment
