As a follow up to Erich Mueller's comments.

 

An alternate suggestion would be to hold 3 or 4 simultaneous meetings
around the world, possibly spread over 5 to 10 days:

*       In the Atlantic

*       Pacific

*       Asia and Australia; and

*       Indian Ocean and Middle East

 

This would get around the problem of needing to host an enormous
meeting, would permit simultaneous transmission of plenary talks and
electronic displays of other talks and posters, and would allow us to
reduce our travel carbon emissions and reduce costs of meetings.
