I am a little late joining in on the "Reflections on ICRS 11 parade.
" As co-chair with Dennis Hubbard of the ,"Lessons from the Past"
session, I can brag that we stuck to the schedule. I can also say
after attending the final ceremony that Lessons from the Past was no
where to be seen or heard. In the future we may consider dropping
geology from the program and leave it to the biological
doom-and-gloom and management aspects of coral reefs. On the other
hand, as Dennis Hubbard pointed out in his editorial in the last
issue of Reef Encounters, if the coals continue to die then the next
meeting may very well end up being entirely devoted to geology.
Finally, Dick Dodge and all his associates did a monumental job
pulling this meeting together. It was right up there with the
Olympics. Gene
