Resident Lecturer in Tropical Marine Ecology
Position Announcement
The Center for Marine Resource Studies
Turks & Caicos Islands, B.W.I.

Position Summary: 

The core functions of this residential field position are to: 

*	Teach Tropical Marine Ecology course and one-third of the summer
courses based on critical, local environmental issues and problem-based
interdisciplinary curriculum. 
*	Lead designated components of the Center's Five-Year Research Plan,
including overseeing and advising the student directed research projects
that relate to these research lines. 
*	Publish research and seek external research grants

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. and University-level teaching experience (1-2 years preferred) in
Tropical Marine Ecology

Competencies:

*	Tropical Fisheries, Reef Fish Ecology, Conservation Biology,
Tropical Reef Biology or related field. 
*	Extensive field research experience, preferably in the fields of
Queen Conch, Spiny Lobster, and Reef Fish Ecology; Tropical Coastal Zone
Ecology; Marine Protected Areas; Coral Reef Monitoring; Marine Policy
Formulation. 
*	Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary
teaching and research team. 
*	Good track record of research publications. 
*	Proved track record of grant writing success. 
*	Certified SCUBA diver, Divemaster highly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

*	Demonstrate experience working in collaboration with small island
state governments. 
*	Demonstrated commitment to environmental issues. 
*	Residential student group management and risk management experience
highly desirable. 
*	DAN O2 provider certification. 
*	Extensive small boat handling experience. 
*	Current first aid certification.

Other Expectations:

*	Willingness to work flexible hours and live on site at the field
station with a small team of permanent staff, groups of US undergraduate
students and visiting researchers or programs, and participate in all center
activities. 
*	Represent SFS at local and international conferences.

Start Date:  September 2008

Reports To: Center Director

Salary:  Salary ranges from $26,000 US to $29,000 US depending on experience
and qualifications, plus excellent benefits and on-site room and board.

Resident Lecturer, Economic & Ethical Issues in Sustainable Development

Center for Coastal Studies
Puerto San Carlos, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Position Summary: 

The purpose of this full-time, year-round, residential position is to: 

*	Teach HYPERLINK

Ethical Issues in Sustainable Development course and one third of the summer
course.  Course based on critical, local environmental issues and
problem-based interdisciplinary curriculum. 
*	Lead designated components of the Center's Five-Year Research Plan,
which broadly treats the question of sustainable development in Bahía
Magdalena. Specific research areas for which this position is responsible
include community cohesion, commitment to and plans for development, and
economic make-up and development capacity of the local population.
*	Oversee and advise individual student Directed Research projects
that arise from the research plan.
*	Disseminate research findings to local and international audiences.
*	Minimum Qualifications:
*	Ph.D. and university-level teaching experience in Environmental
Policy, Socio-Economics, Anthropology, Sociology, Environmental/Ecological
Economics, Community Development/Planning, or similar field. 
*	Experience in field research design and implemention, preferably in
the fields of development economics, community development planning,
cultural anthropology, or ethnography. 
*	Good track record in research publications. 
*	Experience living and working in Mexico.
*	Strong Spanish language skills preferred. 
*	Residential student group management and risk management experience
desirable.
*	Other Expectations:
*	Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and independently. 
*	Oversee and advise individual student Directed Research projects
during each program period.
*	Publish research and seek external funding.
*	Demonstrated commitment to environmental issues.
