Dear Listers,

I would like to take this opportunity to let everyone who will be
attending the 11th ICRS know that seats are still available for the
local Palm Beach County field trips (Numbers 14A, 14B, 14C) Sunday, July
6th and Saturday, July 12th. Each trip consists of a unique artificial
reef and one of Palm Beach’s beautiful natural reefs. We still have 3
seats available for trip 14A, and 10 seats each for the other two trips.
Costs listed with the trips do not cover dive equipment rental or dive
tank rental. Gear rental can be obtained with Pura Vida Divers
(561/840-8750) for 14A and Force E Dive stores (561/845-2333 or
561/368-0555) for all 3 trips.

Each trip is a half day, two-tank dive trip and the itineraries are as
follows:

14A: On Sunday, July 6th the dives are offshore of West Palm Beach,
and cost is $60 per diver per trip. The first dive will be on Breaker’s
Reef, 4th Window which is part of the third reef terrace in
approximately 60 ft. (18 m) depth. Since high tide will be at 1130, the
second dive will be within the Lake Worth Lagoon on Sugar Sands Ledges.
Sugar Sands Ledges (SSL) consist of a series of concrete ledges with
limerock rubble piled on and around the ledges to increase habitat
complexity. Due to its location within the Lagoon, if conditions are not
cooperating on the day of the dive, an alternative dive location, Royal
Park Bridge, will be visited. Royal Park Bridge was built with the
bridge demolition pieces in about 80 ft. (24 m) depth.
Meeting time/place: 0730 boat leaves at 0800 at the Dive Vessel
NARCOSIS; Riviera Beach Municipal Marina; 200 East 13th Street; Riviera

and cost is $50 per diver per trip. The first dive will be on Governor’s
River Walk in approximately 85 ft. (26 m) depth. This reef consists of 4
ships connected by 3 limerock corridors. There is abundant fish life
and an interesting contrast of settlement, recruitment, and succession
on the concrete and limestone boulders. The second dive is on Breaker’s
Reef – the Trench whichis part of the third reef terrace in
approximately 60 ft. (18 m) depth.

(21 m) depth. The UNITED CARIBBEAN is a 145 ft. (44 m) coastal freighter
that once was used for smuggling human cargo before it was acquired and
sunk in 2000. A limerock boulder corridor connects the two ships.
The second dive is on San Remo and Brighton Ledges, part of the third
