[Coral-List] GEF Lessons Learned Meeting

Dear List,

 

The special session on Lessons Learned and Best Practices in the
Management of Coral Reefs at ICRS 11 is quickly approaching. As a
reminder, this session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8th, from 6:30 to
9:30.

 

The following is a brief draft agenda, to be fleshed out in the next few
days. We would like to focus this session on lessons learned that can be
applied to the new Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI). However, input from
all coral reef areas is welcome. In order to benefit the CTI and other
coral projects, we propose a pragmatic, results-oriented approach:

 

1. Coral Triangle Initiative - what are CTI accomplishments so far? What
are the outstanding management issues/questions/challenges that the CTI
project is currently facing? (i.e., those for which outside inputs or
guidance might be useful from other GEF-supported coral projects
assembled at ICRS-11). What sort of guidance do CTI personnel currently
seek from their peers?

2. GEF Lessons Learned Project - what have we learned which should
benefit implementation of coral projects hereafter?

3. GEF Coral Reef Targeted Research Project - what insights have we
discovered which can be directly applied to coral projects hereafter?

4. Discussion in response to questions raised by CTI and other project
personnel as well as to elaborate upon insights provided by the GEF
Lessons Learned and CRTR projects.

One output from the session would be a short summary/article detailing
some of the key challenges/issues CTI is facing, and some of the
approaches/solutions which will have been proposed by the other projects
and participants present to address those challenges. We will also
include points of contact for follow-up.

 

 

We still have room for a few more people. I would really like to get
more participation from those involved in past or current GEF projects,
and/or anyone actively involved in coral reef management in the Coral
Triangle area. Please let me know ASAP if you would like a seat at this
session.
