Assistant/Associate Professor, Marine or Related Science/Program
Coordinator Position --  University of the Virgin Islands -- United
States of America
 

The University of the Virgin Islands invites applications for a full
time, non tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Marine or
related science/Program Coordinator position to begin in August 2009.
This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher, scholar, and
administrator who is interested in being part of a new interdisciplinary
Master's program in marine and environmental science.  The successful
candidate will be expected to teach core and elective courses in his/her
area of expertise, as well as coordinate the Master's program, including
participating in recruiting, advising and mentoring students,
facilitating advisory board meetings, liaising between the masters
program, the Division of Science and Mathematics and the Center for
Marine and Environmental Studies, and ensuring proper evaluation of the
program.
UVI is a Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution.
As such, we seek faculty who will inspire and mentor students, as well
as integrate instruction with research and service. Appointees must be
able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic
and cultural background Qualifications: Applicants must possess a PhD in
Marine or related sciences. Candidates with a background in
administration of graduate or other innovative programs, including
evaluation, are especially encouraged to apply.
 The primary teaching responsibility of the successful candidate will be
graduate level coursework in marine and environmental science, with the
potential to teach some undergraduate courses within the Division of
Science and Mathematics.
Employment will begin in August 2009.
Rank and compensation will be based on academic preparation, teaching
and practical experience. Benefits include a generous TIAA/CREFF or
Virgin Islands Government Retirement Plan, as well as a comprehensive
group medical and dental insurance plan.
If applicable, economy airfare to St. Thomas for the appointee and
immediate family, and a shipping allowance of up to $1,250 will be paid
by the University upon presentation of receipts.
