Fisheries Technicians | Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, Marathon, FL | Temporary

Salary: $15.00/hour 

Closing: Until filled. 

Responsibilities: Two field assistants are needed for summer field work (June thru September 2009) with the FWRI/SFRL finfish program. The successful applicant will conduct fisheries-independent underwater visual census and help deploy a 100-ft seine in near shore waters of the Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas National Park.  The assistant will aid in fish identification, measurements, and data recording. 

Qualifications: Marine or ecological sciences background with scientific diving experience (certified diver with a minimum of 30 scientific dives; AAUS certified diver is preferred). The applicant should be familiar with tropical reef fish identification and demonstrate an ability to follow QA/QC protocols and attention to details.  Prior field work experience, including the operation and trailering of small (<25') boats is desirable. Applicants must be able to pull seine, move equipment ≤ 50 lbs and possess a valid driver's license. You must be US Citizen or a legal U.S. resident or have a current U.S. Work Visa.
