Dear colleagues,

“Day-Care for Coral Reefs: monitoring, modelling and management in a
changing climate” is the only coral specific session planned for the
upcoming Joint Assembly, 24-27 May, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. This
session (OS02) is part of the Ocean Sciences program.

We invite your abstracts for oral and poster presentations (submission
deadline: 04 March 2009) through the website:
http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja09/.

The session description is:
Coral reef stakeholders range from recreational users to fisheries to
the tourism industry. The health, composition and diversity of coral
reef ecosystems are influenced by various physical processes including
temperature, light, currents and waves. Monitoring and modelling of
physical and biological variables assists in understanding the coral
ecosystem. Effective response during environmental stress events
underpins the management of reefs and requires accurate and timely
forecasts and nowcasts. In the face of continued climate change,
frequent measurement and dissemination of information is critical for
this vibrant ecosystem.

Travel fellowships are available; conditions can be viewed at the
website above.

The meeting will be held at The Metro Toronto Convention Centre, located
in the heart of vibrant downtown Toronto, a thriving multicultural
mosaic. The convention centre is within walking distance of the
waterfront, fine shopping, restaurants and attractions. The city’s
business, financial, fashion and cultural districts are minutes from our
doorstep.

Please distribute this notice to any parties who may be interested. We
look forward to seeing you in Toronto!

Yours truly,

Scott Heron and Mark Eakin
Conveners
