Dear Coral listers,

Several postdoc and tenure-track research fellow positions at the Biodiversity Research Centre, Academia Sinica, Taiwan (BRCAS) are currently open for applications. BRCAS is one of the leading research institutes in Taiwan focused on biodiversity-related research at local, regional, and international levels. BRCAS was established in 2004 and currently in its expanding mode. There are currently 18 principle investigators covering the research areas from basic taxonomy to the modern evolutionary genomics. The targeted numbers of PIs is 30 for the BRCAS. Currently, a Taiwan International Graduate Program (TIGP) specifically emphasized on biodiversity has been establishing in the BRCAS and will start to recruit PhD graduate students in 2011.

Tenure-track Positions: Evolution, Ecology, Microbial Diversity and Bioinformatics
The Biodiversity Research Center (BRC), Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan (see homepage at http://biodiv.sinica.edu.tw/), invites applications for tenure track positions in terrestrial ecology, marine ecology, evolution, microbial diversity and bioinformatics. The rank is open, though junior scientists are preferred. Candidates with a research interest in ecology, microbial diversity, evolutionary biology, or bioinformatics are encouraged to apply. Candidates with good postdoctoral research experience are preferred.

BRC is in an expansion mode, with many tenure-track openings. The center is strong in marine biodiversity and molecular and genomic evolution and has set up a sequencing core with one 454 and two Solexa machines. The center wishes to strengthen research in ecology (especially terrestrial ecology, wetland and coral reef ecosystems), microbial diversity, molecular and genomic evolution, and bioinformatics. The positions will be open until filled; however, the first review will be conducted in the last week of August.

An applicant should submit the names and e-mail addresses of three references along with CV (including a list of publications), 3−5 representative papers (pdf files), and a statement of past achievements and future research interests to Ms. Jennifer Jia-Yu Chen (jennyc26 at gate.sinica.edu.tw).

Postdoc position(3) in Coral Reef Research Group, BRCAS

Several postdoc positions are immediately available and applicable at the Coral Reef Research Group in the BRCAS. We are developing the research using Taiwan and the coral community along the Kuroshio Current (Okinawa and high-latitude Japan) as a system to address the impact of future ocean change on marginal coral reef and communities in this region. The applicants particularly with interests on (1) impact of ocean change and ocean acidification on life history traits of coral holobionts; (2) Connectivity and response of coral communities to future ocean change along Kuroshio Current; and (3) Transcriptomic approaches to understanding of coral evolution, are encouraged to apply. All nationalities are welcome to apply.
