Dear Mark,

Following a remark from my friend Jens ZINKE (he did his PhD with us in Mayotte I. and he is one who know quite well the climate of the Western Indian Oc.,
I ask you to study if the place of "Mayotte" can be added to the other NOAA stations followed in the Northern Mozambique channel for coral bleaching or other events (meteorological stations are better organized than in the Glorious Is., close).

Thanks for sending this report.

The Feb. 26th 2010, we shall have a meeting in Mayotte (Mamoudzou) with all the people interested by environmental problems (all the Environmental agencies, local environmental teams, even the regional administration - Prefecture -) that could affect the lagoonal and reefal waters 
and
 I am invited the March 03 by the Regional Council and its President to exposed some of the more accurate environmental problems affecting  the lagoon and coral reefs in this times, so we will talk about a possible warming of the seawaters (31 - 32° C) and possible important bleaching of hard and soft corals.
It is for these reasons, I send you my last message to know where I can get the satellite temperature maps of the ocean in the Northern Mozambique Channel.

As a Marine Park of the Mayotte lagoon (including the Zélée outer bank) was just created by President SARKOZY the last Jan. 18th 2010, I propose you that Mayotte I. will be added to the "observation station" panel for bleaching alert, even it is not a NOAA station.
Please give me your position  about this proposal.
