MANTA: Marine Science And Nautical Training Academy

MANTA is a non-profit organization that offers unique marine science education programs to college students. Students live aboard a large catamaran sailboat in the British Virgin Islands while being immersed in marine science, receiving their PADI scuba diving certification, and learning to sail. MANTA's research scientists and instructors teach in a "flippers on" style, and the syllabus includes lectures and labs on several aspects of marine science, as well as active participation in publishable marine research.

The college program is offered through the College of Charleston, where four credits of lower- or upper-undergraduate study can be earned. A description of the course content is provided at http://sotkae.people.cofc.edu/dropbox/BVIs.pdf. Also, please visit http://www.manta-online.org for additional information, including trip details and the online application.

NOTE: We are accepting late enrollment for the 2010 College of Charleston for-credit program (July 30 - August 13, 2010)!!! Non-credit seeking students are also welcome, and are invited to enroll directly through MANTA at a reduced late enrollment price.

Please email Rusty.Day at manta-online.org or Erik Sotka < SotkaE at cofc.edu > with questions.
