Session on Genomics, developmental biology and systems biology
during EURO ISRS symposium: Reefs in a changing environment
13-17 December 2010, Wageningen, The Netherlands

session convenors: Jaap Kaandorp (University of Amsterdam),
Chris Voolstra (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology,
Saudi Arabia) and Monica Medina (University of California, Merced)

Currently there are several ongoing whole genome projects for
scleractinian corals, other cnidarians and their symbionts. It is
expected that these advances will change coral reef science and will
enhance our knowledge by providing new insights into processes such as
calcification and biomineralisation, signalling between host and
symbiont, gene regulation and development, physiology etc. This new
knowledge will also help to stimulate the use of systems biology approaches
in coral reef research enabling us to develop models for understanding how
the different layers of biological organisation (e.g. genome, gene
regulation, cells, polyps, symbiont, colony) are linked. We would like to
invite researchers working on the genomics, developmental biology and gene
regulation of reef organisms, simulation models (from gene to organism) and
related topics to submit abstracts to this session. Please note that the
deadline for the submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentations
is July 1st 2010 (see http://www.isrs2010.org/)
