The Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF), a Tavernier, Florida based 501 c (3)
non-profit conservation organization, was created to develop coral nurseries
and reef reforestation programs for critically endangered corals at the
local, national, and global level. Our mission is to develop affordable,
effective strategies for protecting and restoring coral reefs, and to train
and empower others to implement those strategies in their coastal
communities.



*Position Description: *

CRF is seeking a self-starter intern for a three month period during summer
2010. The internship is scheduled to commence June 2nd and terminate August
27th. The start date is flexible within a 1-2 weeks period based on the
final applicant’s qualifications, skills, and availability. This internship
is paid and open only to U.S. citizens. The candidate will be expected to
use their own mode of transportation to/from work.



*Responsibilities will include:*

·         Working hours Monday-Friday, 9 – 5 p.m., with occasional Saturdays


·         Working as an assistant to full-time staff, including various
office & field related tasks (i.e. database management, field work
preparation and maintenance)

·         Assisting in volunteer programs as a team leader (training will be
provided)

·         Assisting in weekly reef restoration, coral propagation, and/or
research collection activities

·         Assisting in developing outreach/education materials

·         Will design, prepare, and execute in collaboration with staff one
internal project to benefit the overall mission and objectives of CRF, and
will compliment the candidate’s personal interest/area of study/professional
career

 *Position Requirements:*

·         Minimum of bachelor’s degree in environmental education/marine
biology/conservation/tourism is required, Preference will be given to
candidates who are actively pursuing or have a Master’s degree

·         Experience working and managing people of all ages is preferred,
with preference given to experience working with people/habitats in marine
environments

·         Comfortable speaking to groups of all ages, extroverted
personality a plus

·         Team player capable of working independently (and in groups)
performing maintenance tasks effectively outside, on boats, in/on water, in
the heat, in the sun, and in variable weather conditions

·         Organization skills, time management, problem solving, and safety
awareness

·         Working knowledge of Office 2007 (Word, Excel, Publisher,
PowerPoint)

·         Adaptability to new environments and change, ability to think
outside of the box

·         Open-water SCUBA certification, personal dive gear/equipment, DAN
Divers insurance, and a physical exam before the start of the internship.,
strong swimmer, love for the water

·         Sincere passion for the environment and/or social change, and
eager to help make a difference
