Spatial Analyst/GIS Expert for Mapping
Coral Reef Resilience at the University of Queensland, Australia

The University of Queensland is
seeking a spatial-modeller to be appointed for a minimum of 2.5 years (possibly
extended beyond that) to work on mapping the resilience of coral reefs to
climate change and to design marine protected areas. The position will be
focused heavily on the design of marine reserve networks in the Bahamas and will
include theoretical studies as well as practical support to on-going
conservation efforts by Bahamian agencies. Travel will take place to the
Bahamas each year, and it is expected that the analyst would also start working
on projects in the Pacific, particularly on the Great Barrier Reef. The
analyst will join a diverse and lively research group at the University of
Queensland, which is a leading institution for coral reef research,
conservation biology, and marine reserve design. Eligible applicants may
be of any
nationality. A PhD is not mandatory if the applicant can show real
expertise in GIS and computer programming in the context of ecological
research. The application deadline is May 24, 2010. Please
send inquiries and applications to Peter Mumby (p.j.mumby at uq.edu.au).

Best wishes for your work,
