I'd like to advertise a new position at the University of Queensland for a spatial analyst / GIS expert to work on mapping coral reef resilience. A description of the job is located below.
A few key points:
a) Any nationality can apply
b) This is a genuine position (there is no internal candidate being considered despite the short deadline).
c) A PhD is not mandatory if the applicant can show real expertise in GIS and computer programming in the context of ecological research.
d) Salary up to AUD$64,000 pa depending on experience
e) Start date: 1st July preferred
f) Deadline for applications 24th of May - I am happy to discuss informally over email.
g) 2.5 year position at the outset but might be extended
h) Please send applications to Peter Mumby: p.j.mumby at uq.edu.au
A spatial-modellor is to be appointed for a minimum of 2.5 years (possibly extended beyond that) to work on mapping the resilience of coral reefs to climate change and design marine protected areas. The position will be focused heavily on the design of marine reserve networks in the Bahamas and will include theoretical studies as well as practical support to on-going conservation efforts by Bahamian agencies. Travel will take place to the Bahamas each year and it is expected that the analyst would also start working on projects in the Pacific, particularly on the Great Barrier Reef.
The analyst will join a diverse and lively research group at the University of Queensland, which is a leading institution for coral reef research, conservation biology, and marine reserve design.
