1) Two full-time seasonal (6-month) Biological Science Technicians

DESCRIPTION:


2 vacancies - Biscayne National Park, FL


The incumbent works with a supervisory biologist, technicians, interns and
volunteers in the Fish and Wildlife Program and will be involved in the
acquisition, entry, organization, and analysis of data for various projects
aimed to assess and manage fish and wildlife resources, threatened and
endangered species, and non-native plants and animals. Specific duties may
include, but are not limited to the following: monitoring sea turtle
beaches for nesting activity and protecting and monitoring discovered
nests, completing underwater visual censuses of reef fish populations,
conducting creel surveys of recreational fishing activity, implementing the
park's invasive lionfish management plan, completing surveys of avian and
herpetological resources, and participating in habitat restoration and
exotic plant management efforts. Incumbent will also be responsible for
data entry and quality control, preliminary data analyses and assessments,
and installation, operation, and maintenance of field equipment and
personal gear. Incumbent should be comfortable working in the water and
from small boats, and can expect to be exposed to extreme weather
conditions (sun, heat, wind etc), rough seas, and stinging and biting
organisms. A valid US Drivers License, SCUBA certification from an
accredited national institution, and ability to operate a motorboat up to
30 feet in length are requirements of this position. Technician will be
required to wear the NPS uniform. Incumbent should be comfortable working
in the water and from small boats, and can expect to be exposed to extreme
weather conditions (sun, heat, winds etc), rough seas, and stinging and
biting organisms.
