We are very pleased to invite you to join us in the Mini-Symposium 17d- “Managing bleached coral reefs” at the 12th International Coral Reef Symposium, to be held in Cairns, Australia in July 2012. This mini-symposium is a part ofMini-symposium 17: The Coral Triangle Initiative.
Managing Bleached Coral Reefs
Coral bleaching has occurred with increasing frequency on coral reefs in Indo-Pacific and other regions. It is clearly recognized as the most important threat of coral reefs throughout the world. In 2010, mass coral bleaching was recorded in several countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc. The 12th International Coral Reef Symposium will provide a good opportunity for scientists and managers, especially from the coral triangle area and its vicinity in where there are large coral reef habitats, to discuss and share experiences concerning ecological and socio-economic impacts from the bleaching, particularly for tourism and fishery sectors. The aspects related to resistance and resilience to coral bleaching and lessons learned from management of bleached coral reefs will be concentrated in order to provide guidance for keeping a balance between economic growth and natural resource preservation.
Please submit your abstract through the ICRS website (http://www.icrs2012.com /AbstractSubmission.htm)before 1st October 2011.
We look forward to seeing you in Cairns. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
