Dear Coral-listers,

We invite submissions of abstracts for the ICRS 2012 mini-symposium 22c:
/Management of coral reefs in regions of high biocultural diversity/.

The worldwide decline of coral reefs not only jeopardizes global
biodiversity, but also the cultural, social and economic well-being of
many traditional peoples. The knowledge and practices of traditional
peoples are vital for the effective management and conservation of coral
reefs in regions of high biocultural diversity. Despite this, formal
management arrangements often ignore or undermine traditional knowledge,
cultural priorities and access rights. This mini-symposium will
contribute case studies and conceptual and technical frameworks on
approaches to managing coral reefs that enhance the cultural, social and
economic well-being of traditional peoples in regions of high
biocultural diversity. We encourage abstract submissions that describe
innovative tools to acknowledge and strengthen culture in the design and
implementation of conservation actions.

Abstract submissions are now open at:
http://www.icrs2012.com/AbstractSubmission.htm

For further questions, please email the symposium chair at:
alana.grech at jcu.edu.au

Sincerely,
Alana Grech, Stacy Jupiter, Bob Pressey and Helene Marsh
