Dear Marine Conservation Community,
I would like to announce an opening for a Field Operations Coordinator that
is soon to be available with the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL).
CORAL (www.coral.org) is an international non-profit, member-supported
organization, dedicated to keeping coral reefs alive around the
world. CORAL is based in San Francisco and employs field staff in various
coral reef destinations. CORAL works to build sustainable coral reef
destinations by enhancing the conservation management of marine managed
areas, fostering best environmental practices in the tourism sector, and
building communities’ understanding and stewardship of their reefs. Entering
its 18th year of conservation implementation, CORAL has set an aggressive
vision for growth and increased conservation action throughout this decade
to meet the serious global threats affecting coral reef ecosystems and the
human communities they support.
- This is a full-time, salaried, benefited position, based in San
Francisco, CA, USA
- Approximately 15% time is required for domestic and international
travel to the regions in which we operate. The candidate must possess the
necessary permits required to work in the USA, as well as the necessary
passport/visas required for international travel.

*Position Objectives and Principle Responsibilities*
- Coordinate and track progress on field activities required for the
multiple projects within the Coral Reef Sustainable Destinations global
strategy;
- Provide critical knowledge to Field Staff and to enable them to fully
and autonomously exploit the potential of CORAL’s tools and services in
achieving conservation outcomes;
- Offer technical assistance and capacity development to CORAL’s
site-based Regional and Field Managers to advance CORAL’s strategies;
- Ensure that conservation activities are carried out within the scope,
timeframe and budgets of the funding awards of CORAL’s site-specific five
year strategic plans;
- Assist Field Managers with expenditure tracking to ensure deliverables
are completed on time and within budget;
- Help facilitate communication between CORAL Field Managers and other
CORAL staff (including Conservation Programs, Administration, Development,
Foundations Relations, and Communications departments) and external groups
(including NGO and government partners);
- Assist Conservation Programs Director and Finance Director to monitor
and evaluate the effectiveness of field-based conservation strategies being
implemented under funded projects and against the site-specific CORAL five
year strategic plans;
- Work with the CORAL Regional and Field Managers to achieve the vision
and goals of their five year strategic plan. Help achieve and monitor
progress against conservation strategies;
- Ensure timeliness and quality of reporting by maintaining a database of
reporting deadlines and assisting the Conservation Programs Director and
Grants Associate to write narrative and financial reports;
- Assist with efforts to secure additional funding for the field
projects, working with the Conservation Programs Director and Foundations
and Grants Associate in San Francisco. Participate in project
fundraising and grant reporting.
