are pleased to announce the international course titled

LIGHT AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS ON CORAL REEFS

DATES: Monday, 16th January to Saturday, 4th February 2012

LOCATION: Unidad Academica de Sistemas Arrecifales, Puerto Morelos, Mexico

REGISTRATION AND TUITION FEES: No fees are charged for this course.

TRANSPORT, LODGING and FOOD: Course participants are responsible for costs
of travel, accomodation and food.

INSTRUCTORS: Dr. Anastazia T. Banaszak (UNAM); Dr. Susana Enriquez (UNAM);
Dr. Ernesto Garcia Mendoza (CICESE); Dr. Roberto Iglesias Prieto (UNAM);
Dr. Helmut Maske (CICESE).

COURSE LANGUAGE: English. All instructors also speak Spanish.

DESCRIPTION: This is an intensive postgraduate course on coral reef
photobiology and includes a strong theoretical background (75 hours)
coupled with hands on experience in practical classes (75 hours). The
course is limited to 16 students.

OBJECTIVES: A) to provide students with the physiological and biochemical
bases of photosynthesis as well as the mechanisms that regulate
photosynthesis in the aquatic environment with particular emphasis on
coral reefs and coral reef dwelling organisms and B) to provide technical
training in the methods commonly used to study photosynthesis. At the end
of the course, it is expected that the students will have the capacity to
incorporate this information into the general context of modern marine
biology as well as to utilize this information in their future projects
and research.

APPLICATIONS: The application package should include: a) a signed cover
letter; b) a statement of interest (one page limit) with current study or
employment situation, background and the reason for the interest in this
course as well as the benefits that such a course will have on present and
future studies and c) the applicant´s curriculum vitae (one page limit).. A
signed letter of recommendation (PDF file) from a current or past tutor or
professor is also required and can be sent with the application package or
else emailed directly by the tutor or professor. Applications should be
