The USGS St. Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center is looking to
hire a research geologist in the topic area of climate history.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position are as
follows:
1. Ability to identify research problems in the area of marine climate
and oceanographic history studies.
2. Ability to formulate and conduct research projects to develop
information on past climate, climate variation, and oceanographic
variation in marine environments, with emphasis on the Gulf of Mexico and
adjacent Atlantic, Pacific and Caribbean areas.
3. Ability to use analyses of calcareous microfossil assemblages, or
elemental analyses of calcareous microfossil tests or coral skeletons
along with geochronology to develop records of past sea-surface
temperature variations for climate, oceanographic, and environmental
history analyses of samples from marine systems.
4. Ability to effectively communicate results of research to colleagues
and technical audiences through oral presentations, informal memos, and
formal written reports suitable for publication.
