Position Title: Spatial and Environmental Data Specialist (position no:
0600285)
Organization: University of the Virgin Islands, Center for Marine and
Environmental Studies (CMES)

Basic Functions and Responsibilities: Within the Center for Marine and
Environmental Studies (CMES), the successful candidate will provide
technical support for a new environmental data institute. The candidate
will be responsible for processing and enacting QA/QC on data collected by
researchers at CMES, including VI Coral Reef Monitoring Program data as
well as data collected from external sources or collaborators;
updating and entering proper metadata in consultation with data providers
and according to established protocols; managing and storing databases;
and providing synthesized data to internal and external users. The
candidate will also coordinate data, software and server access to users;
provide usage and data reports for research, planning and administrative
purposes; and perform other duties as determined by the director. This is
a grant-funded position reporting to the Environmental Data Manager, the
Institute Coordinator and the CMES Director.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computational/computer sciences or
other information/statistical technology or equivalent, and a minimum of 2
years experience post-degree is required; Master's degree preferred;
Knowledge and experience in Geographic Information Systems (preferably,
ArcGIS 10/9.x, ArcInfo, and relevant extensions, such as spatial analyst,
3D analyst, geostatistical analyst, model-builder, etc.); Demonstrated
strong statistical and data-analytical skills; Proven ability to collect,
organize, and manage large collections of data; Demonstrated verbal and
written communication skills; Ability to work in interdisciplinary and
strong teamwork settings; Must have a high degree of motivation, maturity
and the ability to serve a diverse educational and cultural public
constituency.

Salary Range: $40,000 - $47,000 depending of qualifications and experience.
