Wildlife Photography Field Intensive Program

Join us in the Caribbean for an intensive field photography program
designed to elevate experience, techniques, and success obtaining
photographs relevant to scientific research.

Participants will be novice and seasoned scientists seeking to utilize the
options on DSLR cameras and accessories for data collection in the form of
excellent quality, high resolution digital photographs. Experienced
naturalists are welcome to participate. There are a limited 6 spots
(working with 2 instructors) for this program during the week of July 15th,
2012.

Puerto Rico, USA, offers locations suitable for capturing a broad variety
of subjects and circumstances important to scientific research including;
El Yunque rain forest, Dry Forest, mountains, valleys, bright sunshine, fog
and rain, bioluminescent bays, marine mammals, birds, reptiles, abundant
and variable vegetation in terrestrial and marine habitats. Fundamentals of
photography will be reintroduced as the foundation for technical expertise
in low light, bright sunshine, still, fast moving, and challenging subjects..

The day is divided into three events including;
• Preparation for field excursions: Instruction covering camera features
and specific skills
•Field photo shoots: travel to one or more field sites each day (real time
review of images in the field for an opportunity for immediate instruction)..
•Photo viewing with feedback: daily slide show providing feedback from
instructors
Participants in the Wildlife Photography program must bring the following
course materials to Puerto Rico for use during the program:
Reference Book - A Short Course in Photography by Barbara London and Jim
Stone
•DSLR camera
•Lens paper
•Wide angle and telephoto lens(s) (at least 300mm)
•Tripod
•Cable release
•At least 1- 4gb memory card
•Extra batteries
•Laptop computer
•Reference book
•Optional extension tubes for photographing plants turning any camera into
a macro lens.

The program fee includes a bed at the field station, all meals during the
program (bagged lunches for the field), transportation to and from all
field excursions (photo shoots). The program fee does not include
transportation (airfare and ground transportation) to and from the field
station in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico, USA. Please read the information
describing the field station, meals, and accommodations prior to requesting

Upon receipt of a non-refundable program fee of $1100.00 USD (via PayPal),
completed short application, signed liability and photography release
forms, participants will receive detailed information intended to provide
guidance for course preparation.
