Second announcement and first call for abstracts of the 7th Mexican & 1st
Pan-American Coral Reef Congress

The Mexican Coral Reef Congress has been since 2000, the main venue for
reef specialists in Mexico, congregating participants from all sectors
(academia, government and NGOs); it also constitutes the most important
Mexican reef research showcase and networking opportunity for graduate and
undergraduate students. The congress has had the participation of important
international reef scientists as plenary speakers, and in this occasion, we
have decided to extend the invitation to participate to all the countries
of the Americas.

The 7th Mexican & 1st Panamerican Coral Reef Congress will be held in the
city of Merida in Yucatán Mexico, from October 8th to the 11th, 2013.
Mérida is the capital city of the Yucatan state, is the most important city
in southeastern Mexico, and it is rated as the safest city in the Nation.
The Yucatan Peninsula is world-renown by its hospitality, ancient Mayan
culture (archaeological site Chichen-Itza has been declared as a world
heritage center by UNESCO), traditions (folklore, gastronomy, music) and
natural scenery (important component of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef
System).

The scientific committee has the participation of Mexican and International
reef specialists:

The official language of the congress is Spanish, but service of
simultaneous english/spanish translation will be available.

Reception of abstracts will begin on *March 5th until April 14th, 2013*.

Abstracts for oral presentations or posters must be sumbitted in Spanish as
well as in English, each version should not exceed 2,200 characters, and
must be uploaded using the abstract submission system on the congress
website.

Segundo anuncio y primera solicitud de envío de resúmenes para el 7mo
Congreso Mexicano y 1er Congreso Panamericano de Arrecifes Coralinos.

El Congreso Mexicano de Arrecifes Coralinos, ha sido desde el año 2000 el
principal foro para especialistas en arrecifes de México, congregando a
participantes de todos los sectores (academia, gobierno y ONGs). Este
encuentro constituye el escaparate mas importante de la investigación
mexicana en arrecifes y es una importante oportunidad para los estudiantes
de licenciatura y posgrado para relacionarse entre ellos y con
especialistas. El congreso ha contado con la participación de importantes
científicos internacionales en el campo de los arrecifes coralinos como
oradores plenarios, y por primera ocasión se ha extendido la invitación a
todos los países del Continente Americano, a participar en el congreso.

El 7mo Congreso Mexicano y 1er Congreso Panamericano se realizará en la
ciudad de Mérida, Yucatán, México del 8 al 11 de octubre de 2013. Mérida es
la capital del estado de Yucatán, es la ciudad más importante del sureste
mexicano, y ha sido nombrada como la ciudad más segura de la Nación. La
Península de Yucatán es reconocida mundialmente por su hospitalidad, su
cultura Maya (el sitio arqueológico de Chichén-Itzá fue declarado
Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO), sus tradiciones (folclor,
gastronomía, música) y sus bellezas naturales (componente importante del
Sistema Arrecifal Mesoamericano).

El comité científico del Congreso está compuesto por especialistas
mexicanos e internacionales:

El lenguaje oficial del congreso es el español, pero se contarán con
servicios de traducción simultánea inglés-español.

La recepción de los resúmenes será del *5 de Marzo al 14 de Abril de 2013.*

Los resúmenes para presentaciones orales y pósters deberán ser enviados
tanto en Español como en Inglés, no deberán exceder los 2,200 caracteres y
deberán ser enviados a través del sistema de envío de resúmenes en el
portal web del congreso. Los temas de las sesiones podrán ser consultados
también en la página:
