*Marine Science Education Intern*

*October 2013*



*Description*

Sanibel Sea School seeks Marine Science Instructor Interns to assist in our
academic programs. Sanibel Sea School is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to
marine conservation through experiential education. A detailed description

*Responsibilities of the position include*:

-Assist with the planning and delivery of marine science educational
programs.

-Supervise young children (ages 5-13) in a variety of outdoor and marine
environments.

-Foster an appreciation for marine ecosystems and encourage campers to
practice ocean stewardship.

-Assist with many aspects of maintenance and upkeep of facilities and
equipment.

-Assist in the management of a conservation non-profit.



*Salary*

The interns will be paid a $320/week stipend. The School will not provide
housing, but dormitory style housing is available for $400 per month.



*Dates*:  Starting date of the position is early December.  The period of
employment is 1 year with the opportunity for renewal.**



*Qualifications*

·       Must be a US citizen or have a valid work permit.

·       Must have a baccalaureate degree with courses in Biology, Marine
Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Early Childhood Education, Plant
Biology, or some combination thereof.

·       Have a desire to share your passion and knowledge of the ocean with
students.

·       A basic knowledge of the flora and fauna of Southwest Florida is
preferred but not required.

·       Have or be capable of obtaining certifications in CPR, First Aid,
and Lifeguarding is required.

·       Be a strong and competent swimmer, comfortable in outdoor settings
and physically capable of leading groups of children in a variety of
natural environments.

·       Be capable of lifting 40 pounds and working in the sub-tropical
conditions of Southwest Florida for eight-hour workdays.

·       Need to be tech savvy and have an understanding of social media
communication. Photography interest and skills is a plus.
