Position Posting - Our Florida Reefs Program Assistant

This full-time, grant-funded, OPS position supports the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP) staff with the implementation of the Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative (SEFCRI) Local Action Strategies (LAS) and other projects, as developed by the SEFCRI Team of stakeholders and other interested parties. Specific duties are as follows:
 
Assist the Fishing, Diving, and Other Uses (FDOU) Coordinator with the following tasks: 

Coordination of Reef Visual Census (RVC) partners (e.g., weekly email reminders).
Giving presentations at public stakeholder meetings regarding the SEFCRI ‘Our Florida Reefs’ Process (OFR).
Updating SEFCRI OFR presentation as needed, based on stakeholder feedback..
Updating SEFCRI OFR documents (e.g., meeting minutes, etc.), based on community working group meetings, stakeholder feedback and new scientific publications.
Coordinating the Our Florida Reefs Reef Champion network.
Maintain the Our Florida Reefs website and keeping the Florida Coral Program Facebook page active by creating new OFR content.
Attend SEFCRI OFR related planning and public meetings.
Coordination of the Marine Regulation Awareness Program.
 
Assist Southeast Regional Administrator, CRCP Manager, Office Manager, and Project Coordinators with the following tasks:  

General/administrative office work (e.g., filing, mailing, entering data). 
Other duties as assigned.
 
Knowledge, skills and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position: 
Knowledge of: southeast Florida marine environment. Interest in coral reefs, natural resource and ecosystem management, recreational and commercial uses, marine science and public outreach required. 
 
Ability to: communicate effectively with others verbally and in writing; research Best Management Practices and other pollution control strategies; communicate with public and officials in a courteous and engaging manner; enter and maintain datasets; adhere to stringent quality control/quality assurance protocols; travel within 4 county area (Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties); maintain and organize project files.
 
Skill in: the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, HTML/Website design, Wordpress, Adobe Acrobat, and EndNote. 
 
Licensure/registration/certification requirements: valid Florida driver’s license. 
 
Other job-related requirements for this position: 
Education: High School diploma and minimum 2 years college required.  Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university with course work in environmental management or policy, coral reef biology or ecology, water resources, or public policy preferred.
 
Funding: Position is grant funded for one year. Information regarding additional funding opportunities for subsequent years will be made available at a future time.
 
Working hours: (A) Daily from 9am to 6pm (B) Total hours in workweek 40 (C) Must be able to work flexible schedule including evenings and weekends, as needed. Position may be extended annually, contingent on available funding.
 
Salary: $17/hour
 
Benefits: Benefits provided are subject to provisions included in the Affordable Care Act for Other Personnel Services. No additional benefits available.
