The Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute in St. Petersburg is now recruiting for an OPS Biological Scientist II to conduct field research in the Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas.  A brief description of the position is included below.

Section: Ecosystem Assessment & Restoration/Habitat/Coral Research
This position requires extended travel in the field between the months of May and October. Travel often requires two week overnight stays in the field and requires working on weekends; workweeks in the field often exceed 40 hours. Overtime (time and a half) is paid for any work over 40 hours in one work week. Travel expenses will be reimbursed. No moving expenses provided. Pay is commensurate with experience. This position is based in St. Petersburg, Florida. This position qualifies for State based plans for health insurance.
Funding for this position is provided by recurring federal grants. Long-term employment is contingent upon renewal but funding for this position has been awarded for three years.
Job Description
This position has two primary responsibilities: (1) Serve as a team member for the Coral Reef Evaluation & Monitoring Project (CREMP) in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) and Dry Tortugas National Park. Responsibilities include conducting in situ demographic assessments of selected marine benthic taxa including scleractinians, octocorals, and sponges, assisting in the collection and analyses of datasets that evaluate changes in benthic cover at long-term monitoring sites, and performing statistical analyses of project data and contributing to summary products (e.g. tables and graphics) for report and manuscript production. (2) Participate in studies related to the recruitment and survival of juvenile corals and octocorals along the Florida Reef Tract. Contribute to all aspects of the study including installation and deployment of project equipment, monitoring and assessment, data entry, analysis, and report and manuscript publication, and collaboration with external partners on project design, implementation, and execution.
Minimum Requirements
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences plus three years professional experience, or a Master's degree with one year professional experience. Preference may be given to qualified candidates with a Master's degree.
