Hi Listers,

I am hoping to get a brief science based statement/answer to the following questions. The statement could potentially be used for an international campaign to protect coral reefs and coral reef species.

How do reef fish contribute to the health of coral ecosystems in turn the health of the oceans? As abundance of reef fish decline, what are the impacts on coral reef ecosystems and biodiversity in the oceans? 

This is for education and outreach to the general public NOT the scientific community.
