The application period for the 2014-MAR Leadership Program is open!

The Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program (MAR-L Program) is looking for
12-14 early/mid-career professionals from the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR)
ecoregion shared by Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico (state of
Quintana Roo only) who have a commitment to the conservation of the
region’s coastal and marine ecosystems. We offer training and project
incubation opportunities to emerging leaders from all relevant sectors
(non-profit, government, private, media, and academic institutions) as long
as their professional activities and interests have a direct connection
with the health and environmental sustainability of the region.

About the Program:
The Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Program (MAR-L Program) is a joint
initiative of the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (
www.mexicanfund.org) and The Summit Foundation (www.summitfdn.org) that
seeks to accelerate conservation impacts in the MAR Ecoregion by empowering
emerging leaders who are at the early- to mid-career level to develop
innovative and replicable projects that address the main threats facing the
region’s coastal and marine ecosystems. The program´s goal is to empower
emerging leaders with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to
initiate and implement audacious and replicable projects that address the
main threats of the region’s coastal and marine ecosystems. The MAR
Leadership Program operates on the basis of yearly cohorts. Each cohort has
a thematic focus linked to the conservation needs of the reef.
The 2014 cohort thematic focus will be Solid Waste Management with an
special interest in Sustainable Materials Management .

Program Sites for the 2014 MAR Leadership Cohort:
This year, MAR Fellows will launch Sustainable Materials Management
programs in the following five selected sites.
•   Mexico: Cozumel, and Holbox
•   Belize: Punta Gorda
•   Guatemala: Livingston
•   Honduras: Roatan
While it is not mandatory, we encourage candidates that live in these areas
to apply.

Eligibility Requirements:
•   Be a resident of the Mesoamerican Reef ecoregion, which includes
locations within Belize, the Caribbean basin of Guatemala and Honduras, and
the State of Quintana Roo in Mexico
•   Be at the early- to mid-career level
•   Be able to communicate basic verbal and written English and Spanish
•   Demonstrates a commitment to conservation
