Apologies for some of the inaccurate statements regarding reefs in the article. We all know that what you say is frequently not what a (student) reporter hears. Thanks.

Subject: [Coral-List] Disabled student/marine biology class

http://www.hsuoracle.com/news/student-kesha-pilot-proves-disabilities-don-t-limit/article_5fdc757c-6923-11e4-ab5e-c72b7b679663.html

I am attaching a link to a story about a paralyzed student who participated in my marine bio field experience in Belize this past summer. In trying to prepare to accommodate her (she cannot move her legs), I really had trouble finding any information out there other than some specific SCUBA programs for the disabled, so I thought I would put this up, in case any of you find yourselves in a similar situation. The scuba scooter really ended up working well for snorkeling, and she was able to do virtually everything that all of the other students did. There are some things, however, that I wish I had known at the outset, and would be happy to share those details individually.

I do have a couple of spots still open for this class (Tropical Marine Biology) in July, if there are any interested students who would like look into it. It starts with a week of background material at our biological field station here in Arkansas, then two weeks in Belize. Most time in Belize we are at the TREC lab in San Pedro, but we also spend several days on Caye Caulker investigating island life, and go inland for some exciting caving and a visit to the ruins at Tikal in Guatemala. Travel cost is $3400, exclusive of tuition and fees. That includes round trip airfare from Arkansas, lodging at the field station here, and all expenses while we are out of the country. I have some scholarship money available.

Thanks,
Jamie Engman
