*POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER - REEF RESTORATION*

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is a research university with a fully
integrated liberal arts and science college. It draws students from around
the world, and prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of our
interconnected world.

NYUAD is seeking to appoint a Post-Doctoral Researcher who will develop a
research agenda around reef restoration using coral larvae. The overall
objective for this project is to assess the feasibility and to develop a
set of best practices for larval approaches to coral reef restoration,
using a combination of laboratory based husbandry and field based
deployment and monitoring. This position would be funded for a period of
three years, providing opportunity for the post-doctoral researcher to
develop additional research directions during periods outside of the main
spring spawning season. The candidate would be expected to begin employment
in early 2015.

The Post-Doctoral Researcher with work in the NYUAD marine biology
laboratory under the supervision of John Burt and will be partially
supported by a Research Technician and a Marine Biology Research
Assistant. NYUAD is located on the shores of the Persian/Arabian Gulf
where corals and other reef fauna experience extreme annual temperature
ranges (20 °C) and maxima (36 °C), providing a unique opportunity to use
the Gulf as a natural laboratory to explore questions related to climate
change. A dive boat, experimental aquaria, and laboratory space are
available to support research, and molecular approaches are supported by
the world-class Center for Genomics and Systems Biology at NYUAD.
Candidates will be provided a budget to support both the main project
objectives as well as independent research agenda.

Candidates for the position must meet the following selection criteria:

· PhD in Biology, Marine Biology or equivalent

· Publication track record with first-author experience

· Experience in coral husbandry and larval rearing, ideally in a
leadership role

· Experience in operating and maintaining experimental aquaria

· Experience in leading and managing projects

· Dive certification from an accredited agency (PADI, BSAC or
similar) with at least 50 logged dives

· Experience performing scientific diving (underwater surveys,
experiments, etc)

· Valid Driver’s License in home country

Desirable criteria includes:

· Research interests relevant to the Persian Gulf and/or extreme
reef environments

· Research skills in related disciplines (physiology, cell
culturing, molecular biology, etc)

· Experience in maintaining and reporting records for funding
agencies

· Experience in training/capacity building, particularly if related
to reef restoration

· Experience working in a foreign environment

Hiring is contingent on successful clearance of security, health, and
reference checks, among other HR-related parameters. This will be a
three-year contract position, potentially renewable for an additional year
based on performance and funding availability. NYUAD offers competitive
salaries and an attractive benefits package including housing. Salary and
benefits are tax free in the UAE.
