My free advices to Georgina Bustamante and all
colleagues who want to keep the positive attitude to improve
coral reef (people) management effectiveness and by doing so inspiring environmentally
friendly behaviors in the community as you convey an effective environmental message.

1. Perseverance
to focus on clear, feasible and measurable objectives / goals /indicators

2. Coherence:
People in the community learn by
following examples. They will pay attention to you, if they see you pointing out a solution which requirements
you are fulfilling

3. Create
A Sense of Belonging and Then Build stewardship
by emphasizing in the natural treasures that the community still have to enjoy
responsibly and protect

In the Foundation ICRI Colombia we have experience in listening to the members of the communities with respect call them to
participate in ludic activities such listening to traditional music, showing
them underwater photos and videos, while tasting delicious lionfish canapès and receiving some
little gift of significant value for their fisheries activities and so
underlining them the Economic, Ecological and Social values of the coral reefs.

Thus our longest campaign is about to get successful
results. Since 2008, We have asked the Government to declare #ÁreaMarinaProtegidaArrecifesCapurganáCaboTiburón.
During the #MesDelArrecife November 5-December 5 (Colombian Day of the Reef)
2014; finally, representatives of the Ministry of Environment will visit them
to listen the community interested in the protection of their inheritance THE CORAL REEFS their
most valuable treasures that their grandfathers left them behind as a legacy https://www.facebook.com/ICRI.COLOMBIATwitter @ArrecifesCoralNohora Galvis (Director)PhD Studies in Environmental Management UKMSc Social Sciences ITC , HollandMagister Marine Biology and Fihseires, U MiamiDiploma in Environmental Economics and Policy Analysis, Harvard University

> Dear Colleagues,

> It is interesting the discussion about what We need to do NOW to improve coral reef management effectiveness. I agree that is necessary to enhance local leadership (goverment, NGO and communities) so environmental law is updated, effective and more restricted to avoid further pollution and overfishing.
> The Foundation ICRI Colombia in Pro of Coral Reefs and our National Network of Volunteer Observers of the Reef is launching the Environmental Campaign "The Month of the Reef" #ElMesDelArrecife" This is a case study of community empowerness to require the governmental action to improve coral reef management by:* Declaring a New Marine Protected Area that includes the coral reefs between Capurganá and Cabo Tiburón* Coordinating between the Environmental and Fisheries National Authorities to update the lionfish culling and bycatch to avoid overfishing of native species* The measurement of Mercury in lionfish tissue as it seems that this invasive species accumulate less than other commercial species, so It can be a good argument to enhance local and open a massive market for national consumption
