[Coral-List] Position Announcement - Postdoctoral Research Scientist (PD-2015-6) at Bigelow Laboratory

The Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences (www.bigelow.org) is seeking a
qualified and highly motivated individual for a postdoctoral research
scientist position to lead independent research in the laboratory of Dr.
Nichole Price related to crustose coralline algae ecophysiology (related to
fungal disease infection dynamics) in tropical environments. This work will
involve detailed biogeochemical and physical oceanographic and benthic
community investigations of Central Pacific coral reefs paired with
manipulative laboratory experiments. Highly successful candidates would
have experience with environmental science, spatial statistics, and algal
physiology and culturing, with working knowledge of carbonate chemistry
techniques (such as measuring total alkalinity and operating autonomous pH
and pCO2 sensors), microscopy, and/or fluorometry techniques considered as
highly desirable. Applicants must have at least a Ph.D. in marine sciences,
oceanography, ecology or similar field with a proven publication record.
Experience with project management or fieldwork also desired and AAUS SCUBA
diving certification and small boat operations is required. Proficiency in
computer programs for word processing, image analyses, and data entry and
analysis (including R and/or MatLab) are a must, as well as good written
and oral communication skills.


Research will be conducted primarily at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean
Sciences in East Boothbay, Maine, with opportunities to conduct fieldwork
on Central Pacific coral reefs and collaborate with investigators from
USGS-Honolulu and Bangor University (UK).  The full-time position is
offered for two years available immediately. Salary will be commensurate
with prior experience.


Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences has an active postdoctoral education
program, including a postdoctoral education and ethics training program.
