Research Associate/Research Fellow: Coral reefs under global change

.. Two positions; 3 year appointments
.. Minimum commencing salary for PhD is $88,520 p.a. or Level B $93,182 - $110,654 p.a.

We invite applications from highly motivated post-doctoral researchers to undertake cutting-edge research at The University of Western Australia (UWA) node of the ARC Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Coral Reef Studies. The ARC Centre is a global-leader in coral reef research being headquartered at James Cook University with collaborating nodes at UWA, UQ and ANU. The Centre fosters a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional approach with a vision to provide the scientific knowledge necessary for understanding the world's coral reefs and their interaction with people and their environment. It encompasses over 250 researchers and graduate students and ongoing research projects in 30 countries, with its research programs drawing on expertise from its collaborating universities and other national and international partners. The research areas focus on advancing fundamental understanding of the key processes underpinning coral reef function and resilience. Successful applicants will be expected to develop their own research projects, exploit the world-leading capabilities at UWA and work in close collaboration with the ARC Centre of Excellence and be part of the following teams:

1. Position (ref 426023) will be under the general direction of Professor Ryan Lowe, whose group at UWA conducts studies of nearshore and shelf oceanography. We seek a candidate with a strong track-record in the development and application of 3D ocean circulation models such as ROMS, analysis of field data sets and ability to conduct cross-disciplinary research with linkages to physical/chemical/biological coral reef processes.
2. Position (ref 496067) will be under the general direction of Professor Malcolm McCulloch, whose group at UWA conducts studies on the biogeochemistry of coral calcification, resilience of corals to ocean acidification, and the use of corals as archives of climate and environmental change. Experience with in-situ geochemical (isotopic, trace element) analyses of biocalcifiers is essential, together with a proven capacity to undertake and publish high-quality, internationally recognised research.

UWA is a member of Australia's prestigious Group of Eight and ranked among the top 100 universities (ranked 87th in the world) with a broad and balanced coverage of disciplines in the arts, sciences and major professions. It is one of the partner Universities For the past 100 years, UWA has contributed significantly to the intellectual, cultural and economic development of the State of Western Australia and the nation as a whole.
