We are pleased to post this announcement for a Postdoctoral Research in the area of Ocean Acidification and coral reefs.  The position and application process are described below.  In brief this position is based at CSUN, but involves extensive periods of research in Moorea, French Polynesia, with short period in Hawaii.  The initial appointment will be for 1 year, but the position can be renewed for up to a total of 4 years.

NSF Postdoctoral Scholar – Ocean acidification and coral reefs

Start date: negotiable: 1 April 2015

Salary: $50,000/y

Applications  The successful candidate will work closely with RC Carpenter and PJ Edmunds (grant PIs, robert.carpenter at csun.edu and peter.edmunds at csun.edu) to investigate the effects of OA on corals, algae, and coral reefs in Moorea, French Polynesia.  The research focuses on the ecophysiology of corals and algae, and spans investigative scales from organisms, to assemblages of species, and natural communities; experiments will involve microcosms, flumes, and in situ (field) analyses.  Candidates are expected to have strong field-based experience with the ecophysiology of tropical corals and algae, a background in the biology/ecology/physiology of corals, algae,and reef communities, and experience in analytical seawater chemistry; scuba diving with AAUS training (or equivalent) is required.  The research involves significant periods (up to 6 months/year) of work overseas in Moorea, and shorter periods (a few weeks) in Hawaii.  This position provides unique opportunities to work with a small team studying the biology of coral reefs in the Caribbean and Pacific, and work with colleagues in the Moorea Coral Reef LTER, and Hawaii.
