Small Islands Research in Tropical Regions – The Spermonde Archipelago
and other Case Studies
The 1st International Conference on Small Islands Research in Tropical
Regions – The Spermonde Archipelago and other Case Studies (SIRTRE 2015)
will take place in Makassar, Indonesia at the Universitas Hasanuddin
(UNHAS)  from 15 to 16 September 2015.
The conference will include a full range of interdisciplinary academic
sessions, keynote lectures, social events and field trips.
*** Keynotes:
We are happy to announce
•    Prof. Claudio Richter (Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Center
for Polar and Marine Research). He is works on the resilience of benthic
habitats and was PI in large coral reef focused research projects in
Spermonde
•    Dr. Bert Hoeksema (Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden,
Netherlands) led several expeditions to the Spermonde Archipelago
•    Prof Munsi Lampe (Hasanuddin University Makassar). His work focuses
on the anthropology of Spermonde Islands.
as first keynote speakers.  But this is not it, stay tuned for more
updates! 
*** Travel support
We offer travel support of up to 500 for one outstanding abstract. We
encourage the participation and application of early career researchers
from South-East Asia.
*** Photo Competition
We will also have a photo competition during the meeting, so start
selecting your favorite pcitures about your field work on small islands.
*** Conference publications
Selected conference  papers will be published in the Journal for
Indonesian Coral Reefs and everybody is welcome to publish in the
conference proceedings
*** Deadlines
The deadline for receipt of presentation proposals (oral or poster) will
be extended to 15 July 2015. 
A draft program will be published shortly after in July 2015, together
with the information on acceptance of contributions. Also keep in mind
that we will plan an extra day during which we will offer field trips in
the region!
