Dear Coral list,

As COTS are once more in the spotlight, we would like to draw your attention to a recent article that was published in Plos One by a collaborative team of researchers working in France and Vanuatu a few weeks ago. This paper demonstrated that in addition to vinegar, injections of lime juice also kill coral-eating crown-of-thorns seastars, Acanthaster planci. Limes are 100% natural and are ubiquitous throughout the Indo-Pacific, thus lime juice injections are an excellent and cheap method for controlling COTS outbreaks, especially in developing countries.

This open access paper came online on September 10th ; it can be downloaded from: http://www.plosone.org/article/related/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0137605 <http://www.plosone.org/article/related/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pone.0137605>
