[Coral-List] Climate change - Agriculture's influence - An Uncomfortable Truth?

Karen, I was thinking of posting that video link as well, glad you did.
Headwinds. China announced yesterday it is doing away with its one child
policy. Their economy is slowing and they probably see this as a way to
boost domestic consumer spending, as most economic models are predicated on
growth, a nemesis (I don't need to explain why). As my train of thought
expands, I see the current refugee crisis in Europe result in
further population growth there too, fueled by the benefits of
various socialist programs. Immigrants in from the southern borders of the
US have benefited similarly. Anyway...

Listers, as an armchair observer here, passionate about reef
conservation, I'm seeing alot of postings (research on genomes, corals
that best adapt to rising temperatures, the Seychelles project, etc) that
lead me to think a website will eventually need to be developed with a map
and information / contact links for all ongoing coral nursery & relocation
projects globally. Shared techniques and results. A
governmental awareness momentum seems to be building with the
recent addition of several huge MPAs... Palau, PRIMNM, Pitcairn
Islands. More will follow I have no doubt. Perhaps the work to save corals
from extinction should be focused on such zones, whether large, or small
(such as Buck Island National Wildlife refuge near St Thomas, USVI) because
of fishing restrictions.

Cheers,
Andrew in Seattle
